‘Dangereux’ is the new EP from Paris-based French producer Ytem which intelligently combines trance synths, hardstyle drums and hi-def IDM production to create something ambitious and fresh. The EP is made up of melting drum loops that feel designed to reverberate and bounce across your brain while caustically addictive synths preside over the drums, recalling a rave ready Vangelissound-tracking a dystopian nightmare.
This EP displays Ytem’s newly found spontaneity, something he was aiming for when creating the ‘Dangereux’ EP. This approach was found for Ytem during a difficult time, forcing him out of his comfort zone in an attempt to find a new spontaneous approach to creating music. This new method has allowed Ytem to combine the contradictory sounds of hectic aggressive drums with sweeping cinematic arrangements.
The tracks on the EP regularly juxtapose delicate melodies against the roughness of the snapping drums: the experience is reminiscent of listening to a brutalist horror-film score, the bliss of the melodies working in tandem with the thumping drums.
